Agenda and minutes

1. General information
   • ADASS 2008 meeting
     • There will be three events related to our Network at ADASS'08, namely:
       1. BoF B6 on Future Astronomical Data Reduction and Analysis Software. PG will give a 5 min overview of our OPTICON work and plans,
       2. Poster on the Applications Framework. DT will make the first draft and PG agreed to make the second iteration early next week and print it. The draft version will be posted on our TWiki for comments, and
       3. an AURA meeting North American software developments. PG is likely to participate as contact person for the OPTICON efforts.
   • Agenda for next face-to-face meeting
     • The first draft agenda was discussed. It will be rearranged so that most of the review discussions of documents are on Thursday afternoon to allow video links to North America.
     • It was confirmed that the face-to-face meeting will be Dec. 11-12 in Marseilles. CS and PG are discussing arrangement.
2. Design and interface document
   • Status of review
     • A new version of the Applications Framework document is planned for mid-November so that it can be discussed at our next phone meeting.
     • Work on the White Paper has not yet started but also here a first draft version is planned by mid-November. PG will make it based largely on the Architecture Concept document already available.
3. New developments
   • Prototype projects
     • LP reported on progress with the Python SAMP prototype. A new version is expected in early November after discussions at the IVOA meeting.
     • He also mentioned work on the package Manager XML interface. DT will forward a preliminary design by CASA. BC also mentioned the interfaces used by ParselTongue.
     • There were general agreement that it was important and useful to look on several different approaches . This will improve to final design and specification.
4. Start of OPTICON FP7 network 9.3
   • First phone meeting in Jan. - Feb. 2009
     • It is expected that the OPTICON FP7 program officially starts 2009-01-01. This should allow us to have the first phone meeting of the new Network 9.3 already in January.
   • Participants
     • It would be reasonable to revise our list of participants which will be done during the face-to-face meeting. PG suggested that we still should allow associated members who would not be directly support by OPTICON but otherwise be able to participate in the discussions.
   • Scope and planning
     • Since our FP7 program will have a duration of only 2 years, it is important to have a well define scope and schedule. Also the division of tasks between AVO and OPTICON needs to be defined. A first detailed discussion on these matters is planned at the face-to-face meeting.
