Agenda and minutes

  1. General information
    • ADASS 2008 meeting
      • We plan to present one poster on the Application Framework at the ADASS 2008 DT will be the prime author with the ones contributing as co-authors. It is likely that there also will be a BoF on future software in which both DT and PG will participate. Although we don't plan a formal meeting during ADASS, we may try to arrange an informal gathering on evening - let's see how many participate.
    • Dates for next face-to-face meeting
      • There were some discussion on the exact dates of the next and last face-to-face meeting of our ON3.6 network. The dates will be determined by a vote through PollMeetingDates (see Actions) with a deadline of 2008-09-30. The two main topics on the agenda will be the approval of the final documents to be submitted to OPTICON and detailed planning for the OPTICON FP7 WP9.3 network.
    • OPTICON FP7
      • PG reported that some additional information had to be provided to OPTICON concerning the FP7 planning of our new Network WP9.3. It is still expected that the official start will be 2009-01-01 but more detailed information should be available after the meeting of the OPTICON executives on 2008-11-11.
  2. Design and interface document
    • The discussion on the latest version of the Application Framework document was started on the fase@eso.org mailing list. Main topics were:
      • BG proposed to modify the title of the document to more clearly indicate that it also contained system design aspects.
      • The need for support of graphics tool was emphasized by MC with reference to the Starlink which uses a graphics database.
      • There were some discussion on How to Read the document since it contains rather technical software discussions. One option would be to expand the introduction and provide a definition of terms. The option of creating a conceptual White Paper from our original architectural concept document was considered. PG and MC will discuss this with DT.
      • It may be needed to emphasize that the Applications Framework document also is a product of the OPTICON N3.6 activities. Placing an OPTICON logo on its front page may be enough but PG will check
  3. New developments and prototypes
    • DT reported that LSST had started looking into a build system for their software. Further, they are begin to make new C++ class libraries for their framework.
    • LP and BG summarized the developments in Milan which include a new release of their Python SAMP implementation and a basic execution framework based on it.
  4. Actions
    • Status of open actions (see ActionList)
    • Summary of new actions (see below)
  5. Time for next phone meeting
    • Suggestion: 2008-10-21 14:30 UT (16:30 CET)
  6. Any other business
    • None

Please add what I forgot and correct my errors.
