Agenda and minutes
- General information
- TWiki issues
- There has been a new case where somebody placed advertising on our main TWiki page. PG has removed it and modified the change permission for the page so that only people in the OpticonNetworkGroup can change it. If other similar things happens we have to start restricting change privileges also on other pages.
- It seems that the ActionList page does not function correctly.
- UK participants
- After the Starlink project was closed we have had no official representation from UK. At the ADASS'05 meeting it became obvious that we should get some representation from AstroGrid (see action). This was supported by PD. DT emphasized the importance of keeping a close link to the VO efforts. Whether or not we also should try to find another person from UK remains an issue to be discussed once the AstroGrid link has been established.
- Face-to-face meeting at ADASS'05
- Summary - highlights
- The draft minutes of the meeting will be place on FaceToFaceMeeting20050930 within the next week including presentations available in PDF format. A significant part of the meeting was used to summarize recent development as several members from North America were present and had little chance for a face-to-face discussion of the topics.
- The first LaTeX version of the requirements was discussed (see below).
- The architecture and parameter model were summarized by DT who also gave an account on recent NVO/VO developments.
- There were several presentation on related projects e.g. ALMA/AIPS++, PyRAF, PyMIDAS and Python infrastructure.
- The main activities are currently done related to NVO and SAMPO.
- As major objectives for the next 6-9 month period were detailed specifications for the framework-component interface and ParameterModel. In addition, work on proto-type implementations would be vital.
- ADASS'05 meeting
- Impressions from BoF etc.
- The BoF (evening Oct.3) on a Common environment was well visited. The room was totally filled (70+ people)) with many standing in the back. It started with a summary of the ON3.6 work followed by 3 short presentations on ALMA/AIPS++, software for the Herschel satellite and RadioNet. The last hour was used for a general discussion. The response was positive and the need for defining a common environment was generally recognized.
- FITS and parameter model
- DT (referring to discussions at ADASS'05 with PerryGreenfield) raised the issue on keyword information in FITS headers which has several limitation (e.g. 8 char. keywords and 80 char. cards format). BP summarized the current FITS status. There is a clear need to be able to transfer parameter values (see ParameterModel) in FITS headers. This need not be a full scale XML solution. A simpler scheme based on the
ParameterModel could be considered.
- Anything new?
- Requirements
- As noted above, the requirements were discussed at the face-to-face meeting. An updated pdf-file (v0.6) has been attached to the DetailedHighLevelRequirements page. Also the LaTeX file will be attached so that others can add/modify it. PG will keep the master version so if anybody wants to make changes she/he should send the changes to PG to merge them into the master copy. The actual page will be updated during the
coming month.
- Architecture
- DT reported that nothing much had happened besides the general discussions at the face-to-face and ADASS meetings mentions above.
- Actions
- Status of open actions (see ActionList)
- Summary of new actions (see below)
- Time for next phone meeting
- Suggestion: 2005-11-22 15:30 UT (16:30 CET)
- Any other business
-
- PG will be out of e-mail contact in the period Oct.27 to Nov.10.
Please add what I forgot and correct my errors.
