Agenda and minutes

1. General information
   • DP asked on the status of our report to OPTICON. PG answered that it was submitted to John Davies on 2005-07-29. It was short and basically stated the three points listed below:
     • Between the 2004 report and now we agree on a general architecture and established a first set of high-level requirements (milestone M1).
     • We plan to have 2 face-to-face meeting in the next year.
     • With two meetings per year, our budget is sufficient but we expect to spend most of it on these meetings.
2. Activities at ADASS'05
   • Our poster
     • DT submitted a poster abstract. Beside a short reference to our high-level requirements, the main topic of the poster will be the architectural concept. A draft should be available before our next phone meeting so detailed issues can be discussed then.
   • BoF
     • There was general agreement that it would be useful to have a BoF on data processing. We have made some headway since last year and should inform the community. Also some systems (e.g. IRAF and Starlink) have reduce user support which further emphasizes the need for a new common environment.
     • DT mentioned that many projects make special purpose software due to their budget structure. Thus, a general discussion on the topic on common vs. special purpose systems/environment would be useful.
     • DT and PG will make a proposal for a BoF
3. Next face-to-face meeting just before ADASS'05
   • Update on arrangements
     • DP summarized the current status. Meeting room for 20 people has been reserved and hotels have been booked.
     • A summary table was e-mailed by DP. If any errors are detected or changes needed DP should be informed as soon as possible.
     • Maps and links to instructions to get to El Escorial should be made available on our TWiki.
     • For the ordinary members (for which OPTICON would pay), it will be easier to have the flights reserved through ESO through which travel claims would be handled. Instructions will be send out by e-mail before the end of August. Since the only easy way to El Escorial from the airport is by taxi (which costs around 60 EUR) we will try to share arrival time information so that several people can share a taxi.
   • Tentative agenda
     • The following topics are currently considered for the agenda:
       • A final discussion on the printed version of the high-level requirements
       • High-level design of the environment including definition of subsystems and interfaces
       • Planning of activities for next year such as proto-types
4. General Status
   • Requirements
     • PG reported that not much has happened but a revision and a printed version hopefully would be made by early September
   • Architecture
     • DT mentioned that there would be a VO summer school the next weeks. The architecture would be mentioned in relation to VO client binding.
