Agenda and minutes

1. General information
   • Proposal to add David Barnes, Australia, as associated member
     • PrebenGrosbol proposed to add David Barnes as associated member. This would include the Australian community in the discussions and give further links to VO as he is involved in the Australian VO. The proposal was supported. If no objections are received before Jan. 27, he will be added to the lists.
   • SAMPO kick-off meeting (see GeneralDocuments)
     • The ESO/Finnish SAMPO project had a Kick-off meeting Jan.13-14. Besides general information on ESO structure and projects, there were also presentations of VO and our work. RichardHook outlined the project plan which will start with making a Python interface to MIDAS and possibly to ESO pipelines. It was necessary because OPTICON did not yet have a well define design of the environment. There was significant interest in prototyping parts of the architectural design once it will more mature. Things like the parameter model and a minimum container/component interface were of interest. It is likely that SAMPO will designate a special person (possibly Marko Ullgren) to be there 'design' contact to our Network.
   • IVOA/NVO/Astrogrid discussions
     • DougTody summarized the discussions on the IVOA meeting in early Jan. He had just before the meeting sent them a copy of the architectural concept document. There were agreement on that our and VO efforts were complimentary in the sense that we mainly deal with algorithmic environment whereas VO is more focused on data access and infrastructure. There were also discussions with Grid where issues related to their workflow has to be understood. IVOA will discuss our proposals at their next meeting in May.
   • Report for 2004 to OPTICON
     • The annual report for 2004 will be submitted to OPTICON by Jan. 21 summarizing our activities last year.
2. Priorities for 2005
   • Discussion of priorities e.g. parameter model, minimum container-component interface etc. * The general priorities for 2005 listed in the face-to-face meeting FaceToFaceMeeting20041202 were confirmed.
3. Next face-to-face meeting
   • One option would be 2005-06-23/24 just before the VO meeting in ESO
     • There is a VO workshop/tutorial in the week of June 27 in ESO. Since some people may want to participate in it, the Thursday/Friday before the VO workshop seems to be a good time for our next face-to-face meeting. You can indicate you preference on PollMeetingDates to be updated by PrebenGrosbol (see action)
   • Possible invitation of SAMPO Science Advisory Committee to join in the discussion of high-level requirements
     • There were general support for inviting the SAMPO Science Advisory Committee with respect to the requirements.
4. Architectural concept
   • Status - any feedback?
     • Nobody had heard of any objections against the architectural concept. BillCotton remarked that one could hardly expect this as it is very generic. First when a design and prototypes are being made, we will find the problems.
   • Start of discussions on parameter model and minimum container interface with SAMPO and others
     • It was agreed that DougTody should place the proposal for the parameter model on the TWiki and initiate the discussion on it (see action).
   • Prototyping
     • Several project were interested in prototyping different parts of the architecture e.g. NRAO, NVO, SAMPO, Starlink, Radionet. It was recognized that some overlap but not too much would be good. To keep the different project upto date DavidGiaretta will initiate a TWiki page for exchanging such information (see action).
