Agenda and minutes
- General information
- Our mail-list should now be non-moderated but restricted
- The e-mail list is now unmoderated for people on the list. All are welcome to post information relevant for our Network on the list or start a discussion on a topic. New subscriptions to the list still have to be confirmed by PrebenGrosbol.
- Possible new member from Spain: Nicola Caon
- DanielPonz (second by PrebenGrosbol) proposed to add Nicola Caon from IAC, Spain, as member. If nobody objects before 2004-07-02, this will be done.
- ESO/Finland status
- Finland is joining ESO and the Finish manager of their in-kind contribution of man-power just visit ESO headquarters. It is expected the people will be in place during the fall and actual work could start at the end of 2004.
- Access to our TWiki pages
- PrebenGrosbol argued that it would be good if we already now provide the reference to our TWiki pages to persons who show explicit interest in our work. This was agree whereas it maybe too early to publish it to the community at large.
- OPTICON handout for JENAM 2004 meeting
- JohnDavies requested that we produce a handout page which could be distributed by OPTICON at the JENAM meeting in September. Anybody with ideas, designs or general thoughts are welcome to forward them e.g. on a new TWiki page.
- Subgroup on High Level Requirements
-
- ThijsVanDerHulst and PrebenGrosbol will co-lead the subgroup on High Level Requirements. The exact definition of the work to be done by this subgroup will depend on the Scope discussions and may be restricted to astronomical high-level requirements.
- Poster at ADASS or maybe a BoF?
-
- Both options were discussed and DickShaw pointed out that we actually could opt for both as there were different advantages for both. As the deadline is Aug. 2 a final decision should be made at the next phone meeting.
- Discussion on ScopeOfNetwork
-
- Most of the time was spent on discussing the scope of the network as outlined in ScopeOfNetwork. Below is a summary of some general comments. However, all are encouraged to add their explicit comments to the TWiki page under the specific scope topic before July 15. PrebenGrosbol will re-organize the page just after (see action).
- A Scope-0 should be add with a vision/mission statement on the high-level objectives (see action)
- Scope-1 is somewhat mixed and should clearly separate the issues on using free/open source, license free vs. commercial software on one side and making a new environment for astronomy vs. using available software packages.
- Scope-2 should be negated i.e. what is not desirable.
- For Scope-3 there are two views namely as seen by users and designers. Whereas we could/should collect the latter, it will be more difficult and take longer to identify user opinions.
- All agree that Scope-4 was very important and should have a high priority as it will have a significant impact on the architecture and high-level design.
- The Scope-1/4 will define what we really should be doing and therefore should be done first.
- Scope-6/7 should be joint
- There were some discussion on if Scope-8 was relevant. The discussion and recommendation for management etc. of software contributed by users to the framework should certainly be included while it was more unclear for general project management.
- The Scope-9 should be moved up if the list of scope items represents a priority or time-line of our activities.
- Whereas Scope-11 in principle first would be of interest for a phase-B implementation, it is important to outline general issues already now so that proto-type implementations can be coordinated and guided.
- Actions
- Status of old actions
- Summary of new actions
- Time for next phone meeting
- Suggestion: 2004-07-20 14:30 UT
- Due to possible conflicts with VO meetings it was decided to shift the default date for phone meetings to each last but one Tuesday in the month that is the next would then be July 20.
- Any other business
-
- PeterLinde requested to get list of people on the on36 mailing list. Such an updated list can be obtained by sending an e-mail with the command 'who on36' to majordomo@eso.org.
Please add what I have forgotten and correct my errors.
