Agenda and minutes
- General information
- Simpler administration of funds/grants
- OPTICON proposed to let ESO administrate the funds for our network in order to simplify procedures.
- In the end it up to EU auditors to approve funding. JohnDavies indicated that the following items normally could be funded:
- Travels of EU members with a possible extension to 'poor' countries
- Travels within EU. Extra nights of stay to participate in a network meeting arranged just before/after another meeting could be considered if significant cost savings could be demonstrated.
- Subgroups
- Leads
- There were not many offers for leading the subgroups. JohnDavies indicated that it would be better to have EU Leads (as EU funds the network) if suitable candidates could be found. The search will go on but tentative Leads could be identified for two subgroups:
- Scope: PrebenGrosbol(Lead) and DanielPonz (co-Lead)
- Framework: DavidGiaretta (Lead), DougTody (co-Lead) and PrebenGrosbol (co-Lead)
- Start of work
- The most urgent is the definition of Scope. A draft should be made before the next phone meeting (see action)
- Possible new associated members?
-
- The list of members is given on NetworkParticipants. There is missing representation from some regions. We could still add a few people as associated members who are unlikely to get funded for face-to-face meeting but otherwise would participate at equal terms. We should consider the following:
- PrebenGrosbol proposed (second by FabioPasian) to add Bianca Garilli to the list of associated members as she is responsible for astronomical software in Italy
- It would be good to add representation from Spain (IAC) and Southern France (see actions)
- Actions
- Status of old actions
- The only late, pending actions are to create the subgroups. As the urgency is different, they were split up into actions for the individual subgroups.
- Summary of new actions
- Time for next phone meeting
- Tentative date: 2004-06-29 14:30 UT
- Any other business
- What is the relation between TWiki and e-mail list? (PeterLinde)
- The e-mail list 'on36' is mainly for announcements (as it is moderated) while the TWiki should be used for discussions. PrebenGrosbol proposed that a typical discussion would include the following steps:
- The Lead(s) would make a draft on a TWiki page. This could be done through e-mail or phone between a limited number of people.
- When the TWiki draft page is stable, it is announced to the full group through the 'on36@eso.org' mailing list
- Anybody can then add his/her comments, changes etc.
- If issues arise, a tele-conference could be arranged to resolve them.
Please add what I have forgotten and correct my errors.
