Lessons Learned from Legacy Systems
Over the past decades many very useful systems for data analysis have been designed, implemented and used. As in all cases, a given system will always have both its good and less good sides. It is important to learn from this experience when we discuss the definition of a new environment so that we avoid repeating previous mistakes and ensure to retain good features.
To highlight advantages and disadvantages of current systems, we encourage users, designers, maintainers etc. to add the short itemized comments to the following pages for individual systems.
After some time (early 2005), a summary of each page will be made based on the comment given.
